tarrafe is the Guinea-Bissau creole word for mangrove. this graduation work is a fantasised folktale based on the (recent) first journey to my grandparents land. it is also an exploration of the symbol of the mangrove as place-making, as 'a desire for something else', inspired by the Carribbean perspectives on it.

pitch: a biased speculative tale of family members affected by the sudden growth of a mangrove forest, spreading its unpredictable rhizomatic roots towards them. their journey and encounters on the route to the forest, the slow degradation of the norms, dysfunctions, surprises, and many uncanny events affecting each one's belief systems in different ways.
